I am working with a group of three people to create this web application that allows people to lease and rent through their networks.
Because of the high house cost here in Bay Area, 65% of the housing units are renter-occupied. The rental market is hot while the landlords remains to be very selective of their tenants. Our experience shows us, people, especially in Asian communities, are more willing to share houses with people of similar backgrounds, culture, and even hobbits. However, there is no way to gather those info before tenants or landlords live together. Currently, people tend to spread the housing message by word of mouth or social media platforms but these manners are not effective enough. The message might be misconveyed or might be swamped by other posts on the social media platforms.
We design, develop and iterate Funzzi. Meanwhile we developed business strategies and models of how we should advertise this product in the long run.
I serve as the program manager to conduct market research and to establish goals and strategy plans for the project. I also coordinate and monitor progress throughout the lifecycle of the project and kept team members motivated. As first time being a PM, I learned that I need to have team agreement on roles and responsibilities and time commitment at the initial phase of the project.
In addition, I lead the UX/UI efforts for designing the visual elements and overall user experience. By utilizing sketches, wireframes and usability testing, I was able to examine the quality of the product and work with engineers to fine-tune the performance and details. This project is still in progress and targeting to complete by March 2015.
